Dave Smalley (DYS, Dag Nasty, All, Down By Law) Needs Your Help

January 23, 2024 Chris Wrenn

Dave Smalley needs your help.

If you’re seeing this, you’re more than likely a friend, fan, or supporter of Dave. He’s currently in the beginning stages of recovering from some serious health issues, and is in need of our help. Dave had a tough fight against cancer last year. He spent the first half of 2023 doing several bouts of chemo, followed by a surgery to remove the remaining cancer. The recovery from surgery and treatment brought on its own challenges, which left Dave hospitalized with Encephalitis on two separate occasions, for several months. He is back home now, but will need some PT going forward. It's been a scary year, but Dave is winning his fight. While he was hospitalized he was unable to work, and is left with an astronomical amount of bills. No matter the amount, any donation will go straight towards the care and medical attention needed to get him back on his feet.

Here is a message from Dave's children; Madeline, Abigail, Colter and Griffin:

β€œHi all, Dave's kids here. We just wanted to say thank you in advance for your support for our dad. He’s had a hell of a year with these health complications, but we’re confident that he’s on the road to recovery. Even while in the hospital he was showing us studio recordings of some new music!!! All the love you’ve been sending is appreciated. Cheers.”

Catch Jake Woodruff (Defeater, Dreamtigers) on Tour This Month with Aisha Burns

January 11, 2024 Bridge Nine

Jake Woodruff (Defeater, Dreamtigers) will be playing guitar for Aisha Burns (Balmorhea, Dreamtigers) from January 14-27th, as part of the Torres tour.

You can also hear Jake playing guitar on Aisha’s recent single, a cover of Chris Isaak’s β€œWicked Game”, along with Ricardo Lagomasino (Lucy Dacus) on drums, and Lindsey Verril (Little Mazarn) on bass. The artists recorded at home and it was mixed by Jon Low (The Menzingers, The National, Taylor Swift), and is a great take on a classic tune. It’s out now via Western Vinyl, so stream it or check it out on YouTube here:

BHC Promoter Jimmy Flynn, RIP (1983-2023)

December 27, 2023 Bridge Nine

The Boston hardcore punk community lost a real one this week when Jimmy Flynn passed at the age of 40.

Jimmy was a character who loved all things Boston punk and Boston sports. He promoted punk shows under the name Hardcore Stadium and was one of the rare few who seemed to always manifest cool things into reality. Jimmy will be missed, and you can help properly send him off HERE.

DYS 'Brotherhood' LP: 40th Anniversary Pressing

December 22, 2023 Bridge Nine

Originally released in 1983 as the fourth title on Boston's iconic X-CLAIM! record label, DYS is celebrating 40 years of Brotherhood with a special edition of their classic LP. This anniversary pressing compiles both sides of the album as well as their song "Wolfpack" onto a single-sided LP, with a screen-printed B-side. This edition is limited to 1,000 copies available from Bridge Nine in two colors: clear vinyl (300 pressed) and translucent red vinyl (700 pressed).

Maximum Rock N Roll called this album a "contagious masterpiece." A part of the original Boston Crew, alongside S.S. Decontrol and Negative FX, DYS and their Brotherhood album influenced generations of straight edge hardcore punk bands, the youth crew movement, and deserves a place in any true hardcore fan’s record collection.

Earlier this year, DYS announced a series of 40th anniversary shows to acknowledge this milestone. Those were unfortunately canceled due to vocalist Dave Smalley’s struggles with a serious medical issue. Those issues are unfortunately ongoing and have resulted in significant medical expenses. For that reason, proceeds from this special edition are being donated to Dave Smalley's medical fund.

Pre-order your copy of the DYS Brotherhood LP HERE! (update as of 12/24: clear vinyl is sold out, red vinyl is still available!)
