Watch Bill Fulkerson’s interview with Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Mutoid Man, etc.) as he shares his Five Favorite Records in our Bridge Nine Record Store HERE!
We recently had Stephen Brodsky on the B9 Podcast, and once he and Chris wrapped we had him flip through our records too. He pulled five of his favorite records in our store and told us what he loves about each one.
#1- Hello Bastards by Lifetime
“It’s such a melodic, crushing, ‘we don’t have time for anything else’ kind of fast… Great stuff.” Brodsky remembered the time he went to see Lifetime and the energy that they had was insane.
#2- Nine by Russian Circles
Brodsky shouted out friends Russian Circles for their newest release, Nine. “It always blows my mind how much noise and sonic goodness three people can create… They kind of have an old school approach to things, it’s really refreshing.”
#3- Songs of Separation by 108
“This record scared the shit out of me when I first heard it… It scared me like a good horror movie.” This record shaped a lot of Brodsky’s musical framework, even if Robert’s screaming freaked him out. He says this record aged incredibly well, and we have to agree with him on that.
#4- From Parts Unknown by Every Time I Die
Brodsky recounts touring with Every Time I Die as being intimidating, even in the band’s early years. From tours back in the day to covering one another’s songs on Two Minutes to Late Night, ETID’s music is a big part of Brodsky’s life. He paid tribute to Andy Williams: “he changed the way I hold a guitar pick…Just one of the many things to love about Andy.”
#5- Tales For The Rages by Piebald
“I love that these guys are still making music with the spirit and precision of the old days.” Another band that shaped Brodsky when he was young, Piebald and Cave In share a similar place of origin in Merrimack Valley. Both bands still being around is a testament to the power of collaboration and keeping one another inspired.
