I traveled out to Los Angeles last week to see H2O perform at The Roxy for their "One Life One Chance" benefit show... For those of you that aren't familiar with OLOC, it's an organization started by Toby Morse from H2O, which brings him into middle and high schools to speak with kids about living a drug free, positive life - dealing with peer pressures and rising above them. Since a lot of schools don't have the budgets to afford bringing in speakers like Toby, H2O put together the benefit to raise money to cover costs of visiting schools that can't afford it, but likely need it the most.
Touche Amore and Set Your Goals opened up the show, and just before H2O went on, Toby introduced a video that was put together by Joseph Pattisall, which showed behind the scenes footage of Toby visiting schools in NYC. It really helped put what Toby is doing into perspective for everyone at the show who was in the audience and had supported the event.
To really make it a special night, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio came out on stage during the song "What Happened?", singing his lines in his first performance with the band since the song came out almost 3 years ago. Michael Rappaport (who intro'd the video to the song "What Happened") did his first stage dive ever, Brian from the band Black Train Jack played bass on the song 5 Year Plan, and Travis Barker, of Blink-182 fame and whos company Famous Stars & Straps sponsored the event, came out and played drums on the last two songs. Definitely a memorable night.
